Montecristo
In 1935 the most famous of the great Havana brands was born. It was a new brand from Menendez, Garcia y Cia., then the owners of the H. Upmann brand. The name was taken from Alexandre Dumas' 1844 novel Le Comte de Montecristo. With a major marketing campaign by Alfred Dunhill of London, it became the most popular of all Havana cigar exports. The Montecristo became the Dunhill cigar. There are no machine-made shapes in this range. The strength is medium. It has become the 'gold" standard for all other Havanas.
